This is Just Wrong

00:09 Apr 22 2007
Times Read: 653

Why is the family of the Virginia Tech gunman receiving death threats and having to be in police custody for their own protection? They did not commit a crime. They did not kill anyone. They are law-abiding citzens who are just as shocked and saddened as everyone else by what their relative did. We can say that the family missed warning signs with this young man. First of all, this young man was quiet and I am sure he kept things from his family. Do you think he went home and told his parents two young women at his college called the police about his stalking? No , he did not. The young women did not press charges. Maybe then his family would have found out about the incidents. Maybe not. The campus of Virginia Tech was not required by law to notify his parents of his mental health problems or of the writing of his that upset his teachers. This family was probably in the dark about this young man.

Maybe the people sending the death threats are upset because the gunman is dead and they feel that someone has to pay for the deaths of thirty-two people. I think they need to use their enegries helping the survivors through the dark days ahead. Sending death threats to the gunman's family will only get them into trouble and will not help anyone.

There Are Warning Signs

18:37 Apr 18 2007
Times Read: 656

The more that is learned about the shooter in the VA Tech shooting, the more I think there were warning signs that this guy was going to do something. His roommates have described his odd, stalking behavior and his English professor tried to warn university officals about him based on his writings. They are saying that it is hard to predict human behavior. Sure I can agree with that. Based on previous information about this guy, you would not think he would commit a mass shooting, but since he was stalking young women and writing about murdering people, you would at least think one of these women could be in danger of being hurt.

The Columbine shooters and others have given hints to what their intentions are. We are going to have to pay more attention to our children. No-one wants to think that their child or a child they know may have mental issues and may become violent. Mental illnesses such as bipolar and schizophrenia normally manifest themselves when a young person is in their late teens or early twenties. Most of the time both illnesses can be controlled with medication. Without medication or some type of awareness by the individual of what is wrong with them, violent action can result.

A few on the news have said this young man was a brillant student. The question was asked how to you determine the difference between brillance and an oddness that can be dangerous. That is simple. Albert Einstein was brillant. His papers included the theory of relatively and he regretted his part on working on the atomic bomb for the rest of his life after innocent people died during the bombing of Japan. This shooter wrote about killing people and stalked women. He will be known for the worst mass murder in US history to date.

Another School Shooting

02:22 Apr 17 2007
Times Read: 660

There was a time not too long ago that parents could send their kids to school and feel they were relatively safe. It never occurred to anyone that they could send their child to school and get a call that same child was shot. The events at Columbine, Jonesboro, Ark, and Pearl, Ms in the 1990s soon changed the feeling many parents had about their children being safe on school grounds.

Today a gunman went to the campus of Virginia Tech and decided to kill two people at a dorm, before heading to a class building and shooting many others. ( At least, we assume it is a lone gunman. Ballistics of the shells found at both crime scenes are still being tested to make sure it was the same person. )

While most of the nation are shocked and saddened by these recent turn of events, one preacher or so-called preacher made some remarks today that were not only unacceptable but showed him to be the scum of the earth.

The following remarks were found on the website www.godhatesamerica.org. It is the site for the Westboro Baptist Churh that is lead by the Rev Phelps. He is the same person who has his followers protesting at the funerals of dead soliders.

Here is what I found on the website:

WBC will preach at the funerals of the Virginia Tech students killed on campus during a shooting rampage April 16, 2007. You describe this as monumental horror, but you know nothing of horror -- yet. "They shall also gird themselves with sackloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads" (Eze. 7:18).

The LORD God Almighty is your terror, and you refuse to acknowledge Him. He has appointed over you terror (Lev. 26:16). We keep telling you how this is going to get worse and worse for you, and you keep trying to shut us up with new laws and lame government action. You might as well accept the fact that as long as we draw breath, we will use that breath to preach to you. Our prophecies are true. Your children are dying in the streets of Iraq, the mountains of Afghanistan, and the hallways of your own schools. You have no one to blame but yourselves.

Soon the whole world will have heard of Westboro Baptist Church and the unwavering message of Her little flock of slaughter. We have preached for nearly 16 years now on the mean streets of America, seeking doors of utterance to cross international boundaries so we might preach the doom of idolatrous Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Now, God Almighty, in His due time, has opened just such a door. You will have no excuse once the BBC and Channel 4 release their pieces on the WBC. No matter what perverted light they display us in, you will receive the message. God Hates Fags. God Hates You. The World is Doomed. This very well may be the last warning this doomed mass of mankind will receive before Christ returns in fire and glory to punish you. Whether you will hear it, or whether you will forbear, it is of no consequence to us. You have been warned.

Now, I have always believed that God is love. That is what I was already taught at Sunday School. I have no problem with people having their own religious views, but I do wish there was a way to shut this group up.

CBS Weighs In

22:11 Apr 12 2007
Times Read: 674

NEW YORK (CNN) -- CBS has canceled Don Imus' radio show, effective immediately, after uproar over his racist and sexist comments about Rutgers women's basketball team.

From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent," said CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves, in announcing the decision.

The decision by CBS came a day after NBC Universal decided to part ways with Imus, thus canceling the simulcast of his show on MSNBC.

Amid the outcry over his on-air racial slur last week, shock jock Imus said Thursday that he had "apologized enough" and that he will not go on "some talk show tour."

"I'm not going to go talk to Larry King or Barbara Walters or anyone else," Imus said on his flagship station in New York, WFAN-AM, which is owned by CBS Corp. and distributes "Imus in the Morning" nationally.

"The only other people I want to talk to are these young women at the team, and then that's it," Imus said.

This is part of an article on CNN about the latest in the Don Imus mess. Maybe some of the other radio and talk show hosts who are known to push the envelope and cross the line with their remarks will learn a valuable lesson here.

Good For NBC

I am glad that NBC fired Don Imus for the racist remarks he made about members of the Rutgers womens basketball team. This is not the first time Mr Imus or someone on his show has had little or no regard for the things that are said. It is good to know that one of the major news networks will not stand for this. People in the public eye should know that the things they say are heard by millions and if they say things that are degrading to someone or a group of people that they will pay the price.

Okay Don Imus Must Want To Be Fired

08:55 Apr 11 2007

Apparently Don Imus is tired of his current job and is wanting to be fired. Why else would he go on his show today and criticize the way a reporter from his own network handled the story about his little racist tirade. Maybe he is looking to retire.

I am beginning to think that Mr Imus is not sorry for his remarks. Today he tried to say the remarks he made were created in the African American community. So that must make it right in his mind to call women nappy headed hoes. I guess it is also right for Mr Imus to join a gang and kill rival gang members, since that is done in some communities. I am beginning to think that the two week suspension is not all Mr Imus will be facing or deserves to face for his remarks.

Don Imus

Well it seems that someone else has gotten themselves in trouble for making a racial remark. Calling the female members of a college basketball team nappy headed hoes was unacceptable and something Don Imus should not have said. This is not the first time Mr. Imus has had questionable things said on this show. One person on the show made the remark that Venus and Serena Williams would never be able to pose in Playboy. They seem to think that National Geographic would be a better magazine to featute these young women.

I am suprised Mr Imus has not gotten in hot water before this. One point that was made during this on the news was that many rappers refer to women as nappy headed hoes as well. I agree that is just as wrong for the rappers to make money by degrading women as it is wrong for Don Imus to say the same thing on his show. The only difference is noone else is getting rich off what Don Imus said. Record companies make millions by what the rappers say. While Don Imus may be suspended and have to watch what he says in the future, no-one is going to put a stop to rappers degrading women as long as it is making money.

Snow In Central Texas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

22:31 Apr 07 2007
Times Read: 686

Snow is a rarity in Central Texas no matter what time of year it is and it is even rarer in April. When I got up this morning, my roommate's father who is visiting for Easter said it is trying to snow. At first, I was a little skeptical until I went outside for a cigarette. And sure enough, it was trying to snow. Finally, it really got to going and some of it even stuck to the ground. I got pelted with a few snowballs on my way to check my mail, but I did not care. Snow is so rare here, that I was happy to see it, even if it was flying past me or landing in my hair.
